Here is an example of a frameless shower door with panels on each side. Due to the door being in the middle of the glass panels It had to have a header so the door could hinge from the top and bottom instead of hinging off the panel. The reason for doing this is to make the shower structurally sound. You never want to hang a door off the glass panels with out the header in place. There is too much weight for the panel to carry the door and creates a very hazardous situation.
